Inspection of Public Records

Compliance: Persons have the right to inspect public records of the City of Farmington in accordance with the Inspection of Public Records Act (Article 14, Chapter 2, N.M.S.A. 1978) and the City Council recognizes its responsibility as a public body to make public records available for inspection.

Public Records Request: A person desiring to inspect public records may submit orally or in writing. A written request must contain the name of requestor, their mailing address, and telephone number of the person making the request. The requestor must describe the records sought in sufficient detail.

During regular business hours to the City Clerk, as the custodian to identify and locate the requested records from the City of Farmington Departments or Divisions.

Pursuant to the Public Record Inspection Act:
  • Type of existing records.
  • Address(es) of building location.

We keep records concerning the application to construct and/or to modify private structures within the municipality. Files may contain the application to build/modify, copy of permit application issued, inspections (e.g., plumbing, electrical, building, etc.), construction building plan copies, work notes, etc. 

Records Available

Building Permits & Plans Retention: 10 years after permit date of issuance. Anything previous/older, have been destroyed, we no longer have.
Certificate of Occupancy (Commercial) Certificate of Occupancy is given to General Contractor when completion of new construction is completed. 

Tenant Remodel, alterations, improvements do not receive a Certificate of Occupancy, but they do receive Final Inspection Slip. 

We do not keep a copy of Certificate of Occupancy on file, our Building Inspector provides and distributes the form out in the field to the General Contractor.

Electrical Permits Retention: 10 years after permit date of issuance. Anything previous/older, have been destroyed, we no longer have.
Plumbing Permits   Retention: 10 years after permit date of issuance. Anything previous/older, have been destroyed, we no longer have.
Mechanical Permits Retention: 10 years after permit date of issuance. Anything previous/older, have been destroyed, we no longer have.
