Lifeguard Training – Learn to become a certified lifeguard and you can work anywhere in the country ‐ or right here with us!  A job as a lifeguard is loads of fun but is also taken very seriously because someone’s life may depend on you.

Become a certified American Red Cross Lifeguard and work at one of our great aquatics facilities - including Lake Farmington! You must be 15 years or older to participate and able to pass a swimming pre-test.  There is a minimum of four people to a class and it is a 24-hour course.  Pre-test must be passed to register for class. Call the Aquatic Center to schedule your test today!  

Pre-test requirements for standard guard class:

  • Swim 300 yards without stopping (100 yrd front crawl, 100 yrd breaststroke, 100 yrd of any stroke or stroke combination you choose)       
  • Swim out 20 yards using front crawl or breaststroke, then surface dive to a depth of 7-10 ft to retrieve an object, then return to surface and swim back to the edge and exit the water within 1 min, 40 secs             
  • Tread water for two minutes using only your legs            

Pre-test requirements for shallow-water guard class: 

  • Swim 100 yards continuously with front crawl or breaststroke
  • Swim out 20 yards using front crawl or breaststroke, then surface dive to a depth of 4-5 ft to retrieve an object, then return to surface and swim or walk back to the edge and exit the water within 1 min, 40 secs            
  • Tread water for two minutes using only your legs              

Think you can pass the pre-test? Talk to the staff at the Aquatic Center and practice anytime to make sure you are pacing yourself to meet the challenge!!
